Another New Year

Well 2012 certainly came at me with a huge whoooosh!! Not sure where 2011 went to but I was kept pretty busy not only with the crazy wedding rush over May to November but we also moved house and I reached the grand old age of 60! Once I would been a pensioner but with the government moving the goalpost wider they have decided that I wont be one now until I have 61 and 5 months old and they will then let me have my pension, free bus pass and heating allowance! something to look forward to in June 2013 then...

The personalised toppers I was commissioned to make in 2011 were really unique and a couple made me blink when I was reading just what it was they wanted to have on top of their wedding cakes.. but each to their own and at least the out of the ordinary toppers were totally unique to each couple.. just as it should be!

Here are just a few of them to show you what kept me busy.

Wedding Madness

Yes, the wedding madness is truly upon us now and will probably be crazy up until the begining of October. I don't have time for my blog, twitter or flickr pages but will try and remember to post some pictures of recent toppers.

Couple are wanting their cake toppers to be so personal to them and they are thinking of more ways they can be made totally unique to them. I think its great and even if at times its a nightmare, I enjoy the challenge and breath a huge sigh of relief when they are finished!

These are a few of them that have kept me busy over the past couple of months.

Urgent Wedding Cake Topper Order

Had a phone call for an urgent order and against all odds I managed to get this personalised set done and dusted in less than 48 hours. Still dont know how I did it and would not like to try one that quick again.

Wedding Fairs

I have been busy getting ready for my first wedding fair this year on the 20th March which is 2 days before we go on holiday to Lanzarote and then have another one 2 days after we get back! So, have to have it all organised and ready to just pick up and go.

I want to do a dry run and set my display out on the dining room table because this was a great saver last year when I knew what to do on the day.

Also making new display models as I feel last years are a bit outdated and want to do some up to date ones........will post pictures of those when I get them finished.

Start of a New Week

Monday the 24th January. Already the year has made a fast start and racing away!

I am getting myself ready for my first wedding fair in March and making some new figurines to bring me up to date with wedding dress styles etc. I also have one in April which will be only 3 days after coming back from a much needed holiday in Lanzarote, and for the first time we are actually going for two whole weeks!!!

So everything has to be done and dusted and ready to just pick up and pack into the car when I get back, but with having the one in March that will give me a head start - just need to remember to pack it all away neat and tidy in readiness.

I shall also be trying to get a few samples of birthday and christening cake toppers and maybe even do those so I can sell on day. If I'm lucky enough to get a buyer that is!

So its back to the drawing board/craft table and busy, busy, busy!

Oh my! I can't believe its been this long since I updated my blog!! Each time I tell myself that I must remember to come and update it more often........where does the time go?

These wedding cake toppers are the reason I was not about for a while as time slipped away from me.

I was given a lovely compliment the other day when one of my brides told me that her wedding guests kept asking if the person who had made the cake toppers had met them both! I thought this was really nice and a gave me a boost!

Crazy Wedding Season

I'm happy to say that the crazy wedding season is keeping me more than busy and its now got to the stage where I am having to turn clients down because I just can't fit them in. This is usualy the case between Aug and Oct when last minute brides-to-be realise that its time to get the finale details sorted - only to find out that most of us that make personalised cake toppers have been fully booked for some time now.

I have taken orders for cake toppers two years in advance which to me is super organised for some brides-to-be and its also great to get them in my diary!

I have had to put my wedding favours website to one side for now as I just don't have the time that is needed to build it up and get it live but I hope by next year it will be ready.

Forgot these ones:

A well travelled bride and groom with passports, champage, roses and chocolates. I enjoyed doing the fine detail on the dress and it was my first box of chocolates and champage bottle so was pretty chuffed with myself.

May News

May was a tornado of mishaps, fighting red tape and a much needed short weekend break in Derby with great friends!

Our car was written off by something that fell off the back of a white van - who did not even stop! Whatever it was it blew out two tyres and damage the undercarriage. Long story short we managed to buy another car which turned out to cost a further £600 with new tyres, exhaust, full service and repair the air con! Well you never know, we may just get a decent summer this year .

Just glad that May is out of the way - apart from the our time spent in Derby that is.

Anyhoooo, a few of the toppers I managed to get done:

Things are still pretty hectic from the car being writen off to a hospital visit for me and me having to drive hubby back and forward to work its taken its toll and my time has been really stretched.

Hopefully I may get some of it back next week as we are off to the car auctions tomorrow night to see if we can get a car that will make do to get hubby from A to B until we get sorted out properly.

Ive been a bit stretched this month with more than normal hospital visits and things have been a bit manic. My topper orders this month seem to be taking longer than normal and I have some really good ones coming up.

From the dancing scene of Grease to a spanish bull and jersey cow and a mountaineer and a cylists.......all will keep me on my toes no doubt!

I have slowly been working on my Wedding Treasures sister website which is called Favours for your Wedding and hopefully will have it up and running in a few weeks - but I'm not holding my breath!

Cutie Pie Wedding Cake Toppers

I have introduced a range of Cutie Pie Wedding Cake Toppers. These are based on the very first wedding toppers I ever did and I have had quite a good feedback on putting them on my webpage.

Because they are only 2 to 3 inches tall these cake toppers would be ideal for the small wedding cake - not to mention a better price for the budget onscious bride-to-be.

I feel these would also be a great memento for an engagment party and then they could even be used on top of the couples wedding cake!

Making them that little bit more personlised to each couple would only require a hair and flower colour change and still keeping the cost down.

Have to admit that I love them, but then again I'm biased! lol

Still not 100% happy with how its looking at the top of my blog page but will work on it.

Wedding Fayres done in February

I managed to get two wedding fayres done in February. The first one was not a good one for anybody because it was not advertised and placed in the middle of nowhere with no signs stating there was a wedding fayre even on! All of the suppliers that I spoke to told me not to be disheartened as they were not all like this and to put it down to experience.

The second one was a week later and I was more positive only to be shot down on waking up to a blanket of deep and dangerous snow which turned out to be one of the main reasons that not a lot of people came through the doors.

Those that did come showed a lot of interest and a quite a few of my leaflets and business cards were picked up so fingers crossed I get some feedback from them.

I think if its taught me anything on wedding fayres it made me realise that its not really worth the time and effort doing the smaller ones and I was advised to spend the money wisely on table space and only do one or two of the big ones once a year! This advise I think I will follow.

Doing the wedding fayres did give me experince in setting up and displaying my table and I feel that next time I will be more relaxed and able to set up with the minimum of fuss and time. so not all was wasted!

Getting Back into the Swing of Things!

Think I may have to give my wrist a good slapping because I can't quite seem to get back into the swing of things.

I need to get this family of toppers done and dusted before I can concentrate on getting myself ready for the weddings fayres which are now only next month! eeeek!

Starting to think how a good holiday with a burst of sunshine would do wonders but its far too soon to be thinking of that that just yet, which is a shame.

Right, lets get this year started with a good week and get things 'tidied' up and get on with whats needed!

Christmas and New Year

The last topper for 2009 was this one! He's from Australia and a professional thai boxer and the bride wanted him to have a black eye - lol! The wedding is to take place on the beach, hence the waves, shells and palm tree in the background.

We are just a few hours away from 2010 and I for one will not be sad to see the back of 2009!

Christmas day was spent at my daughter's with the whole family which was really lovely and its just going to be me and hubby seeing in the new year - thats if we manage to stay awake!

I'm hoping that 2010 will be 'the' year for me inasmuch I am breaking into wedding fayres and advertising in a wedding magazine, whoo hooo! It's about time I broke away from just the internet and let all those non internet users know I'm around and what I can offer.

From March till October is my crazy time and I'm really quite slow during the other three months and its those ones that I'm hoping to get filled in my diary so I have no gaps left. Although sometimes I welcome it as it gives me a chance to catch up with other stuff that usually gets pushed aside because time is not on my side.

I am trying to build up an assortment of cake toppers that I can use on my display table - so far I have managed to make 4 brides and 2 grooms - must get busy doing more! My daughter has offered to help me build two portfolios along with leaflets and order forms and I must remind myself to order new business cards!

Need to also get myself a couple of fake cakes and was thinking of getting those styrofoam (or however it is you spell it!) circles and decorating with ribbons and flowers for the toppers to be placed on.

So onwards and at em!!

Where has the Time Gone to ??

Goodness me, six months since I last posted and so much has gone on during that time!!!

I've been so busy with work and family that some things have had to be pushed into the background and left alone.

I should get myself into a daily or weekly routine to bring my blog up to date and keep up with everybody elses should be one of my new year resolutions!

For now, just a few photo's of some of the cake toppers that I've done the last couple of months.

The bride and groom of these cake toppers did not want to see them until the day of their wedding so I sent them to a relative who placed them on the cake at the reception. They loved being surprised and thankfully were very happy with the toppers.

This bride and groom was my third indian bride and groom and I really enjoy doing them - maybe its got something to do with the colours!

It was nice to meet the bride and groom-to-be as they came to pick up the toppers themeselves and it was so lovely to hear how happy they were about the toppers.

I also did a motorbike for the groom and will put up a photo later.

Right, I think at 6.27am I deserve that first cup of coffee of the day!

Catching Up

I've not had a chance to even look at my blog these past couple of weeks as its been hectic all round!

We now have a new addition to our family with the birth of Henry George Walter who weighed in at a mere 10lbs!!!! It was a really big struggle and my daughter had a pretty bad time of it all. So much so that poor Henry had his arm broken while being delivered as it was a case of him having to be got out quick!!!!!

I've been living most of my time at the hospital and I think with the amount of parking fee's I've paid I should not be allocated my own space for life! I know the hospital's have to get money from somewhere but blooming heck why do they have to charge so much?????

Slowly keeping on top of orders but kind of getting a bit behind and I know its going to be a mad rush the next few weeks to get back on track again - and this is my busiest time.

Will post pictures of Henry as soon as I find some time.

A New Day

Never managed to do any blogging yesterday as was not in my craft room. Went with my daughter to the hospital for a scan and ended up being there for over 5 hours!!!!

She is so heavily pregnant that it hurts her and has been exhausted so much so that she's been off work for 10 weeks. After much too and froing from the doctors and hospital they decided the best thing would be for her to start her maternity leave early.

To top it all her blood pressure is high and rising and she is also undergoing test for sleep apnea and has had to be wear one of those masks for two months. So she's not getting much sleep either!

What was supposed to be just a scan (she has 5 weeks to go) turned into us having to go to four different departments for further tests and if you saw her you would think she is about ready to burst!!!

when doctor asked her if she had any problems she told him how she was in constant pain and he actually said 'take paracetamol'!!!!!!

Wanted to fit her with a 24 hour blood pressure monitor but after half an hour they could not get it to work so in the end told her she has to go to her midwife every two days to have her pressure checked and to contact them if it gets any higher!!

My daughter may be 35 but she is still my baby and I really feel for her!

I had high blood pressure with all three of mine and was induced before my time because of it.

Hopefully in a few weeks it will be all over for her - or will it be just starting! ..

Not My Day Today

Think I should have stayed in bed today as I'm not really getting anywhere!

I'm sure most of you will understand where I'm coming from when I say that nothing I seem to do right (craft wise) is working.

I've been working on a bride's dress now and twice I've squished it to restart and decided to build it up in two stages. Anyway, after softening the white fimo I have just seen blooming grey streaks running though it which now makes it unusable!! (well for the white dress anyway).

Sooooooo I am going to stop for the day and restart fresh tomorrow!

Wedding Cake Toppers Finished

Well just finished this pair of wedding cake toppers and have them all ready and packed up to get in the post tomorrow for delivery to bride-to-be Tuesday morning!
Don't really get a lot of sitting down couples and without having the actual cake, or any cake for that matter, to judge it can be a bit fiddly if I don't get the body part correct otherwise the figurine would topple over! Thankfully I got this one right!

Another Day Blog Building

Well its day three of me trying to get the hang of blog building and I've called on the help of some really great people on a craft forum I'm hooked on - http://www.craftsforum.co.uk/ and if anybody can help me - they can!!!

I'm not even sure what to write about and if thats strange because if you ever met me, I never stop talking . Mind you when I do find something to write about I can sometimes get a bit carried away and end up almost writing a book when I could have said it in two paragraphs!

Right, its back to the craft table and finish of my latest bride and groom pair as I want to get them in the post tomorrow. Will put up a picture later on if I remember!

Painting Rocks

I was looking at some old files in my photobucket account and came across my painted rocks I used to do. I started painting them for something to do while living in America as I was unable to work and wanted something pretty to put on the steps in front of our house. I really enjoyed painting them and before I knew it I even had orders for them and they were being sent through the post to others! Anybody in UK would have thought me mad if I had told them I was posting rocks all over the place I'm sure! Anyway, just wanted to share a few of these with you and maybe one day I can get moving and paint some more - would love to find the time!!

This one has always been my favorite and I have promised myself when I start painting again I will reproduce this one!

These were for customers who used them as doorstops.

Inspired Wedding Favours by Joanne

My soon to be second time mum daughter is now on maternity leave and is looking at working from home once her maternity leave is over.

I've naturally pointed her in the wedding direction as I believe her talent could lie there and of course I can give her a helping hand to get started.

She has been working hard with designing various wedding favours and has loads ideas now that she has the craft bug!
